Is University IFM recognised ?
University IFM is authorised by the Department of Education in the Canton of Geneva. University IFM programmes are recognised in Europe and USA and internationally accredited by ACBSP Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs and IACBE International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education USA. IFM is also EDUQUA (CH) accredited. University IFM is a recognised member of the following accrediting bodies and associations: AACSB Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Swiss Association of Private Institutions of Higher Education ... What are the programmes offered at IFM ?
• At Undergraduate level,
IFM offers a Bachelor of Business Administration with specialisations in International Business, Management, Banking and Finance, Communication and Marketing, Family Business Management. > undergraduate programmes
• At postgraduate level, IFM offers a Master of Business Administration with specialisations in International Business, International Finance,
International Trading > MBA programmes

What is the duration of your study programmes ?
• University IFM undergraduate programmes are usually 3 years in length (9 terms).
• University IFM postgraduate programmes are usually 9 months in length (3 terms).
• University IFM part-time postgraduate programmes are usually 14 months in length (6 terms).

In which language are the courses taught ?
Bachelor : courses are taught in English.
IFM also offers a French speaking and a bilingual undergraduate Section.
• MBA : courses are fully taught in English.
IFM also offers a bilingual section (English-French)

What are the language requirements ? Do I have to know another language ?
There is no need to know another language. For example : a student in the English section does not need to know French.
But some undergraduate degrees may have 3rd specialisation year courses taught in French. Please refer to the specific degrees.

Do you offer language classes (French, German, Spanish…) ?
We only offer Business French or Business English.

Who are the professors?

How many students are there in a class ?
• Bachelor : approximately 15 to 20 students in core courses. 10 students in elective courses.
• MBA : approximately 15 to 20 students per class.

What is the student/professor ratio ?
Our personalised approach and our small classes allow us to offer you a ratio of 5 students for 1 professor.

Where is your campus located ?
The University IFM has an attractive location. It is located in the heart of Geneva, in the University area, 5mn away from the lake, a lovely park, of the old town and of the bank area > IFM campus

Where are the students and faculty from ?
IFM welcomes students and professors from over 50 different countries; the majority are Swiss and European. Main nationalities : Swiss, French, English, Italian, American, German, Russian.

Do you have student activities and a student club ?
Yes, different activities are offered by IFM and its Student Club : Ski trips, cocktail parties, trips, theatre or cultural visits > student life

Do you have exchange or study abroad programmes ?
You can request a credit transfer to another university which is part of our accreditations body (1300 universities in 65 countries). It is not an exchange programme, the student is then registered in the new university. You can then again ask to be transferred back to IFM.

Does the university provide students with career service ?

At IFM, we work with you to achieve your personal career goals and aspirations. We help you to secure future employment by offering essential training through practical career workshops in key areas. We also individually advise students. We provide online jobs and an internship research system. What’s more, IFM offers a unique programme of visits to local businesses, and presentations from experts in different sectors. Our graduates have an excellent employment record.

Does the programme include any compulsory company internships ?
Our curriculum does not require any compulsory company internships. However, we regularly receive internship offers and we relay these to the students. Internship openings are also displayed in our Career Section on the Extranet. Internships offers received this year include: Deloitte, Société Générale, Garmin, Casino, Optimy, Ace & Company, Shiseido.

 

Admissions


How many intakes are there per year and when should I apply ?

We offer 3 intakes a year : January, April and October. Students can submit their application before each start date. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Deadlines for admission are posted. International students living outside of Europe should submit their complete file at least 3 months before the chosen intake.

What are the admission requirements ?
Admissions requirements : Foundation, Bachelor and MBA.

What are the admissions requirements for international students?

Admissions requirements for international students are similar to those for local students.

Do I need GMAT to be accepted in MBA ?
No, you don’t. This test is not part of the admissions requirements in our university. For more information, please read the admissions requirements.

Do I need work experience to be accepted in MBA ?
Relevant work experience is an asset, but not a prerequisite.

Do I need to pass an interview to be accepted in a programme ?
Most candidates will be assessed for admission on the basis of their submitted application materials. However, IFM reserves the right to invite candidates for an interview and to reject those who decline to attend.

What are the admission and the registration procedures ?
Decision & offer

We will assess whether you meet our entry requirements. We will then make you an offer both by email and post, or notify you that you have been unsuccessful. If you have completed your education and met all entry requirements, you will be sent an unconditional offer. If you still have to finish your exams, or have yet to submit supporting documentation, we will make you a conditional offer. You can expect to receive a decision on your application within 15 working days of receipt of your completed application form and supporting documents.

Accepting the offer
If you wish to accept the offer you must:
• Fill out the final registration form and send it back to us via email/post/fax.
• Pay the non-refundable registration fee.
• Pay the advance tuition fees.

Full acceptance
On receipt of your acceptance and the completed registration form, we will issue the final set of documentation.

Does the university accept transfer students from other universities?
Undergraduate only: IFM analyses the application and can make a credit transfer if the student provides all necessary documents from their university (school). IFM does not accept credit transfers at the postgraduate level.

When are the classes scheduled ?
A detailed timetable is given to students at the beginning of the term.
Bachelor : classes are scheduled at different times of the day throughout the week.
MBA : classes are scheduled in the evenings.

I would like to do an MBA but I am working. Is there a possibility to combine both ?
Yes, our new MBA schedules offer the possibility to combine both.
1. Full-time MBA : 4 courses / week from 5.30pm to 8.30pm
2. Part-time MBA : 2 courses / week from 5.30pm to 8.30pm

Does IFM offer a part-time programme ?
Yes, IFM offers a part-time MBA programme. Please kindly note that the part-time MBA is available for students residing in Switzerland and the European Union only.

Does IFM offer distance learning courses?
No, IFM does not offer distance learning education. All the courses are held on campus.

How do I find accommodation during my studies at IFM ?
IFM does not offer accommodations on its campus. Students may research accommodations by connecting to our list of accommodations.
Our list includes contact numbers and information on residence halls, university housing, hotels, and furnished flats. Admissions may help you.

I am already a student in Switzerland how do I continue my studies at IFM ?
• If you are studying at a school outside the canton of Geneva you first need to follow admission procedures. Once registered with IFM, we will give you an attestation of studies, which you should take to the “Office Cantonal de la Population” (the government and immigration office of the Geneva Canton), where you should ask for a change of residence/permit with the appropriate documentation.
• If you are already studying in Geneva you should follow the same procedures as above asking for a simple change of schools.

Does the admissions letter allow me to obtain a visa for Switzerland ?
The letter of admission does not allow you to obtain a visa or residence permit. The authorities need an attestation of studies.

Do I need an insurance in Switzerland ?

Swiss law requires Swiss and international students to be personally insured through an insurance company. > see

Can international students be part-time students ?
No, to obtain a permit, the International student has to be enrolled as a full time student.
Please kindly note that the part-time MBA is available for students residing in Switzerland and the European Union only.

Are international students allowed to work during their studies at IFM ?
Yes, IFM's International students holding a B student permit are allowed to work up to 15 hours a week.

Are there any particular requirements for international students ?
Study fees for international students are the same as for local students.
However, international students must pay the entire annual fees at least 40 days before the beginning of the year.

What are the living costs in Geneva ?
This varies according to housing costs and your personal expenses. More information can be found in the living expenses section.

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid ?
IFM is a private university and does not offer scholarships or financial aid. Students who need a scholarship or a loan to pay for their studies must make their request well before their planned entry to IFM.
Bank loans : in many countries, financial institutions offer local MBA students special loans. These loans are typically repayable after completion of the course, although terms can vary widely. We are happy to help identify suitable financial institutions within Switzerland offering these loans.
